Black Magic

In the Practical Magic book series, "black soap" is a recurring magical item used by the Owens women, particularly the aunts (Franny and Jet) and later by Sally and Gillian.  Black soap holds powerful metaphysical and symbolic meaning in the series, woven into the family's magical practice, and is described as one of the family's most potent remedies for clearing dark energy.  While the ingredients are never described in detail in the books, it is said that the black soap brightens and smooths the skin, makes the user look younger, washes away grief and sadness and offers protection against illness.  

The black soap in the book series was the inspiration for "Black Magic."

Black Magic is made with beef tallow, calendula infused olive oil, black coffee, shea butter, coconut oil and castor oil.  It is colored with activated charcoal and naturally scented with lavender, rosemary, spearmint, clove and rose essential oils.

Tallow
Tallow, a natural and nutrient dense ingredient with many benefits for the skin.  It contains beneficial vitamins and antioxidants (e.g., vitamins A,D, E, K and B12) and closely resembles the natural oils produced by our skin. 

Tallow also includes antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Calendula
Calendula offers numerous benefits for skin health, including reducing inflammation, wound healing and acting as an antioxidant.  It's also known for its moisturizing and soothing properties, making it suitable for various skin types, including sensitive or acne-prone skin.

Black Coffee
Black coffee is rich in caffeine, antioxidants, and ant-inflammatory compounds.  Caffeine helps constrict blood vessels, which may reduce under-eye puffiness and may soothe inflamed or red areas.  Coffee stimulates blood flow and may temporarily tighten the skin.

Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal has detoxifying and exfoliating properties and is believed to ward off harmful energies.

Essential Oils:
Lavender (for calm) - soothing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, healing, and balancing properties.
Rosemary (for protection) - stimulating, antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
Spearmint (for mental clarity and focus) - antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Clove (for spiritual cleansing and purification) - soothes irritated skin, tones and refreshes skin, antioxidant protection.
Rose (for luck) - anti-aging, antibacterial, antimicrobial, hydrating and soothing properties.

This bar is offered in 4 oz (full size), 2.5 oz bars (sample bars) and in 5 oz scrap bags.  

The Black Magic soap scrap bag is filled with bits and pieces (end pieces) from soap bars that were not large enough to be sold as full or sample sized bars.  The exfoliating bag can be reused.  Simply rinse it and hang it to dry until its next use. 

Soap bars may vary in color, size, and shape from those depicted since they are all handcrafted.

To make your soap last longer - in between uses, place your soap on a dish that drains, for example, our bamboo soap holders. These holders allow for drainage and ventilation, which helps dry your soap so it lasts longer.
